W.H. seniors prepare for prom with talk of responsibility

Posted

Every year West Hempstead High School gathers the senior class for a pre-prom assembly discussing positive-decision making and responsibility during prom season.

This year the high school Students Against Destructive Decisions Club sponsored the assembly. Seniors viewed a short film entitled Every 15 Minutes, which was created by students at Castro Valley High School in California and nominated for an Emmy Award in Excellence in Informational Programming.

The powerful film challenged students to think about alcohol consumption, distracted driving, personal safety and the responsibility of making mature decisions when lives are involved. Following the video presentation Anneliese Bosco, a member of Mothers Against Drunk Driving, spoke to students about her son, who was killed by a drunk driver in 2005.
