WHEA raises $4K for scholarships

Broken down by schools, teams made up of principals, teachers and support staff of the West Hempstead school district competed in volleyball games on March 4 to raise money for scholarships awarded to high school students by the teachers’ union.

In its fourth annual volleyball fundraising competition, the West Hempstead Education Association sold 500 tickets, collected hundreds of donated raffle items from members of the West Hempstead Chambers of Commerce and of the entire school community and raised more than $4,000, which will be used to award six scholarships to West Hempstead High School students. “It was great,” said WHEA President Barbara Hafner. “Everybody had a good time.”
