Why knock Merrick? Readers react to Lohan column

Posted

To the Editor:

I am a former Merrick resident, and I recently read Scott Brinton’s column “The press should leave Lindsday Lohan –– and Merrick –– alone” (Sept. 30-Oct. 6), in which he discussed Lohan and criticism of Merrick. It was sent to me in Florida by my cousin, who still lives in Merrick.

I was upset by free-lance journalist Jessica Pilot's piece in Vanity Fair on Lohan and Merrick. I grew up in Merrick and attended Calhoun High School. I loved living in Merrick! Some people just have to trash anything for ratings so they can then feel that they are superior.

Any area has its pros and cons. What was Pilot’s point in knocking Merrick?

No need to defend the Lohans

To the Editor:

Regarding Scott Brinton’s column, “The press should leave Lindsay Lohan –– and Merrick –– alone” (Sept. 30-Oct. 6):

The main reason that I read Brinton’s piece was the headline. Who cares what free-lance journalist Jessica Pilot wrote on the Vanity Fair website? Lohan is in virtually every entertainment magazine every week. Keeping her alive through the media is intentional, though obnoxious. The Lohans keep to themselves while residing in North Merrick. I should know. I am one of their neighbors.

I like the fact that Merrick has a media presence. It gives us some spark in our community. You do not have to defend the Lohan family nor Merrick. There has been no negative impact on the community because the Lohans live here.

Bernie Rosner, North Merrick
