Those who have difficulty with hearing know it can affect many areas of life. It is not uncommon for a person to adjust to his or her hearing limitation, thereby allowing the real problem to go undetected and untreated.

However, if an individual is unable to pick up certain sounds, causing missed conversation or information, that person could easily be viewed as being inattentive.

Fortunately, hearing difficulty is not something a person needs to live with. Wilks Hearing Center has been helping individuals to recognize and deal with hearing loss challenges since it opened in 1952, with the introduction of the transmitter hearing aid. In 1979, it expanded into a full-service comprehensive audiology facility.

Director and audiologist, Stuart R. Wilks, Au.D. FAAA, believes that education, experience and integrity have been to key to Wilks’ fine reputation and continued customer satisfaction.

He, along with Mary Lou Carlson, Au.D. FAAA, a pediatric audiologist, and the rest of his team, use the most current state-of-the-art diagnostic methods to help children and adults find the right hearing solutions.

The staff consists of New York State licensed audiologists with educational and medical experience from some of the most prestigious institutions in the United States.

Each audiologist is also certified by the American Speech, Language and Hearing Association. Drs. Wilks and Carlson are Fellows of the American Academy of Audiology and are Board Certified by the American Board of Audiology.

Through the years, the Lawrence facility has undergone two expansions. It now has two soundproof rooms that meet ANSI standards, a laboratory for adjusting ear mold fit and hearing aid maintenance, and a Sound Field speaker system.
