Winter Storm Watch for South Shore

Snow, sleet, rain could hinder commute on Tuesday, Wednesday

The National Weather Service in Upton has issued a Winter Storm Watch for Nassau County, effective Tuesday morning through Wednesday evening.

The NWS forecast calls for a wintry mix, starting with light snow after midnight that is expected to accumulate to about an inch until it transforms into a sleet and freezing rain mix in the morning. Forecasters predict the sleet and rain to continue through Tuesday afternoon, with snow returning in the evening. According to the National Weather Service, areas of the South Shore could be hit with two to four inches of snow overnight on Tuesday into Wednesday morning.

But the storm doesn't end there, forecasters said.

Another wintry mix, mostly rain, is in the forecast on Wednesday into the evening. Then, possibly, some light snow to top it all off overnight -- but with little to no additional accumulation, the NWS said.
