Four people were injured during a two-car accident on the Southern State Parkway on July 16, where one passenger was ejected from her vehicle and found in the middle of the parkway.

According to Dave Gildea, spokesman for the Malverne Fire Department, the accident occurred at 9:05 p.m. and involved a Mercedes SUV and a BMW SUV traveling eastbound on the Southern State Parkway. Two females were traveling in each of the cars, Gildea said, and the cars were found by the fire department in the woods off the side of the parkway between exits 15 and 17.

Gildea said the emergency call came in as automotive accident with a fire and entrapment, but like many emergency calls, that was not exactly the case. “By the time we arrived, we didn’t see any visible fire, but the driver of the Mercedes was pinned inside,” Gildea said. “We used the Jaws of Life to get her out.”

The driver of the BMW was ejected from her car, but her passenger was not.

Four ambulances, two from Nassau County and two from Northwell Health, arrived to treat and transport the women — all of whom were brought to Nassau County Medical Center. There were no fatalities at the scene, Gildea said.
