An Elmont woman was arrested for driving while impaired on Jan. 25 after she sideswiped an off-duty policeman's car on the Southern State Parkway between exits 17 and 18.

Both vehicles were eastbound on the parkway when Cherie Aldridge, 46, hit the car of the off-duty New York Police Department officer. No injuries were reported.

While a state trooper was investigating the accident, Aldridge was slurring her speech, unsteady on her feet, and was found to be impaired by drugs by a drug recognition expert.

Aldridge, who had been previously convicted of a DWI in the past, was charged with a DWI and scheduled to be arraigned in Nassau County First District Court on Jan. 26.
