Work for a party, be set for life

To the Editor:

Recently, two newly elected state assembly members ran a job fair at Molloy College. From what I hear, it was well worth the effort for all concerned and mainly aimed at getting veterans jobs.

Before the fair, I spoke with one of the men, wrote to them as well, with a suggestion. It was to suggest to those seeking employment to be civilly active, join a party, be a party committee person. Those people seem immune to the recession. One returning from Albany after 10 years and before emptying his suitcase had two jobs and a huge increase in income. Another lost an election and then fell into a wonderful job. Another on the Hempstead town board had a problem and moved on in local government without a pause and saw economic success. Governor Cuomo sponsored early retirement programs, some committee people took advantage and then got another government job in these times. Another benefit of being a committee person is being a nepotism dispenser. This is the spoils system at work, promotes loyalty and legal.

My suggestion fell on deaf ears. Their success was based on being a committeeperson and earlier on nepotism. What better job could veterans get and then get the whole family on the payroll. Committee persons keep government going.
