Workers attend Veolia job fairs

Posted

Some 500 people attended two days of job fairs hosted by Veolia Transportation to learn more about positions with Long Island Bus. Veolia, selected by Nassau County to become its partner in operating Long Island Bus beginning Jan. 1, 2012, is in the process of hiring its workforce to run the system.

Some 150 current Long Island Bus employees attended a job fair held for them on Sept. 29 at the Long Island Marriott in Uniondale, and about 350 others attended a job fair the following day, Sept. 30, to learn more about a variety of positions, including drivers, maintenance technicians and others in operations, maintenance and support. Most of the future Veolia employees will come from the current workforce of LI Bus. Just this week, Veolia reached an agreement with the Transport Workers Union, which represents current LI Bus employees, in which current workers who are qualified will receive preference in hiring.
