Lynbrook event raises funds

On September 1, The Lynbrook Chamber of Commerce hosted a charity benefit for the Wounded Warriors Project.

The event featured Soul Doctor Robert Goebel’s Wounded Warrior Project Band. The band is comprised of musicians from different bands who came together to play without pay for the benefit of the Wounded Warriors Project.

“This is huge!  It was our biggest turnout ever!” said Harry Levitt, owner of Mur-Lee’s Men’s and Boys’ Wear, and chairman of the car show committee.

The Lynbrook Chamber donated all of the proceeds collected from admissions, as well as the proceeds from a 50/50 raffle.  Michael Hawksby, owner of ROK Health & Fitness and a former United States Marine, won the raffle, and generously donated his winnings back to the project.

Impressed by the magnitude of the event, Town Clerk Mark Bonilla was present at the event to present Levitt and other members of the car show committee with a citation.  The event was also attended by Lynbrook Village Deputy Mayor Alan Beach, Trustee Michael Hawxhurst and State Assemblyman Brian Curran, who is participating in a Triathlon to benefit the Wounded Warriors Project.

The car show, held in the parking field behind Atlantic Avenue between Sunrise Hwy. and Merrick Road, will continue Thursday evenings through September.
