An annual Wrap for Relief event, organized by nine local residents, raised $550 for the Rockville Centre Community Fund last weekend.
A week before Christmas, people came to the John A. Anderson Recreation Center to get their gifts wrapped for $1 each. Rockville Centre residents Kayla and Kara Pipia, Erin Reich, Allison Mahoney, Olivia Cino, Sarah Yarris, Samantha Martino, Sarah Alaimo and Ava Klarides wrapped presents for the community on Saturday and Sunday from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m.
Mahoney started the fundraiser three years ago. While she was away at college this year, she passed the baton to Kara Pipia to run the annual event. Since its inception, the fundraiser has donated over $1,500 for the RVC Community Fund, which assists residents who have fallen on difficult economic times.
