In tune with Long Island's 'Piano Man'

Long Island’s favored (if not the favorite) son is the focus of a retrospective concert at Hofstra University this weekend. Presented by Hofstra Entertainment, under the guidance of long-time Executive Producer Bob Spiotto, “You May Be Right,” a Billy Joel ‘experience,’ brings down the curtain on Hofstra’s community arts programming, with its two performances, Saturday, Aug. 18, at 8 p.m., and Sunday, Aug. 19, at 2 p.m.
You May Be Right is a “look and listen” at not only the music of Billy Joel, but also the history of the band from the Broadway production of Movin’ Out and its genesis. The Movin’ Out band had the unique experience of creating a Broadway show with the master himself from the music that has been beloved by so many for more than 40 years.
The band – featuring Wade Preston, the original ‘Piano Man’ in the hit musical (hand-selected by Billy Joel himself), Dennis DelGaudio and Chuck Burgi, Greg Smith, John Scarpulla, and Carmine Giglio – has a Hofstra connection. DelGaudio is a Hofstra alumnus and performed with his bandmates at Hofstra in 2009. Some of the members of the Movin’ Out Band even went on to become part of Joel’s touring band.
“It’s tremendously exciting to have all these guys coming back,” said Spiotto. “Their performance was so well received the first time around, that we wanted to bring them here again. Not only they do they do Billy Joel material, but they transform it in their own style, as it evolved into the Broadway show.”
