Kids and parents celebrate Valentine’s Day at school dances

Love, and probably the scent of sweat socks, too, was definitely in the air as gymnasiums in Baldwin were transformed with hearts, streamers and balloons for St. Valentine’s Day.

At Baldwin Middle School, an after-school Valentine’s Day dance drew almost 300 kids to celebrate the holiday on Feb. 11.

And at Meadow Elementary, a PTA-hosted Sweetheart Dance on the same day drew parents and kids alike.

At Meadow, the theme was Valentine’s red, as many dance-goers wearing crimson to support the American Heart Association’s Wear Red Day. A portion of the evening’s proceeds benefitted the heart association.

But mostly, the event entertained the kids with music, and, it must be said, non-heart-healthy snacks.
