Youth Council thanks Rockville Centre's businesses and residents

The RVC Youth Council is currently in the process of distributing the new Student Lifeline card that provides free, safe rides for high school and college age students to keep them out of harm’s way.

“After a thorough review of only a single nearby taxi service, it was revealed that dozens of … highly critical emergency rides have been provided to Rockville Centre area students during the card’s last distribution period,” said Richard Signarino, the CEO and founder of Student Lifeline. “In the past six months alone, we have spent in excess of $2,500 in emergency rides in and around Rockville Centre, primarily on students, and in some instances stranded adults. You may be assured that this program has worked in potentially saving lives. We continue to service families with children in Rockville Centre, and look forward to the lessening of injury and mortality suffered as a result of drunk driving and menacing vehicular incidents that take the lives of our young people in unbelievable and unacceptable levels each year.”

Rockville Centre businesses have taken action by buying advertising space on these cards that allow the free taxi service home for the student who is in need of a safe ride. The RVC Youth Council would like to thank the following local businesses for their active participation in supporting the Student Lifeline card: King Kullen, Wild by Nature, Associated, Gino’s Pizza, Allstate Insurance, Georgette & Co. Hair Design, Liz & Joe Schmidt Photography, Star Nails, Mio Posto, Ormond Park Realty, Roxbury Reality and JMD Auto Care. Please join these businesses and others, such as Revolution Yoga and KookaBurra Coffee, who are distributing the Student Lifeline cards to their patrons. Any businesses that would like to distribute the cards can contact mcaffrey15@verizon.net.

The Rockville Centre Youth Council hosted a Midnight Bowling Night on Dec.. 29 and was able to reduce the cost to RVC youth thanks to sponsorships by local residents and businesses. For making this event possible, we would like to thank the following lane sponsors: Michael and Nancy Johnson, Christopher and Tara Johnson, Lorrie and Dennis Brady, Jeanne Farnan Mulry, RVC Lanes, Astoria Federal Savings, Johnson Contracting and Patch. Door prizes were raffled off at the end of the night, courtesy of Katie Raftery, Beth Hammerman and Dina Caffrey from Coach Realty.

The next teen event will be a Chinese New Year Dinner and Karaoke Night this Friday, Jan. 28 at 10 p.m. Special thanks in advance to Palace of Wong, which is helping to subsidize this teen event. For more information on the dinner, contact nick.suss@gmail.com.
