Yummy Mummies night out

The Where Angels Play foundation constructed playgrounds in areas damaged by the Sandy Hurricane, one in memory of each of the 26 victims of the Sandy Hill Elementary school massacre in Newtown, Connecticut in 2012. Island Park is home to a playground memorializing one of those students, six-year-old Caroline Previdi.

Island Park resident Cathie Hall has taken Caroline Previdi, her family, the Caroline Previdi foundation and the Island Park playground to heart. She organized the “Island Park Yummy Mummies” and held the first fundraiser for the foundation June 23.

“It was originally just going to be a girl’s night out,” Hall said. “Then I thought why not make some money for charity. My fave charity is the Caroline Previdi Foundation.”

The Yummy Mummies of Island Park have so far made over $600 with more coming in.

Hall said she was very impressed with Caroline’s Mother when they met. “She was so calm and composed. I think about how I would be in her situation,” Hall said.

Hall thanked Gus and George from Pop’s Seafood Shack and Grill in Island Park. Members of both Chambers of Commerce and the Island Park Civic Association, as well as local residents attended.

“Thank you all who came,” Hall said. Thank you all who donated and couldn’t make it. I’m blown away. Thanks to all of you.”
