Police commissioner proposes revised precincts

The Nassau County Legislature’s Public Safety Committee approved the Police Department’s revamped Police Precinct Efficiency Initiative along party lines, 4-3, at a Feb. 13 public hearing. The full Legislature will vote on the plan on Monday, Feb. 27. It must pass with a majority vote. more

The county Legislature voted on Monday to approve about 380 layoffs of county workers by the end of the month.

County Legislature OKs layoff plans

The Nassau County Legislature voted Monday night to approve about 380 layoffs of county employees. The layoffs could take place before the end of the month. According to Dave Denenberg, a Democrat from Merrick who represents the 19th District, the layoff plan was approved along party lines, with 11 Republicans voting for it and six Democrats against it. Two Democratic legislators were absent for the vote. more

Nassau County will end its longstanding contract with the Metropolitan Transportation Authority's Long Island Bus as of Jan. 1, at which time Veolia Transportation will take over.

Veolia contract unanimously approved

In a late-night session Monday evening, the Nassau County Legislature unanimously approved a contract with Veolia Transportation Inc. to take over operation of Long Island Bus. The decision came after hundreds voiced their concerns about the contract at a Dec. 5 public hearing. more
