School Budget Preview

District 13 proposed 2010-11 budget

Proposed budget: $41,341,680 — an increase of $350,294 or 0.85 percent

Tax Levy: $30,160,180 — an increase of $975,294 or 3.34 percent

Tax Impact: Average homeowner will pay about $39 more in elementary school taxes next year.


Contingency: The district would have to cut $433,000. Some capital projects would have to be postponed. No non-essential equipment would be purchased and there would be no community use of schools.

State Aid: District 13 will receive $9.32 million under the governor’s proposed state budget. That is a decrease of about $580,000.

About the budget: The budget preserves all programs and staffing levels. Money is included for a partial roof replacement at Willow Road School and bathroom stall replacements at the schools. Equipment purchases have been scaled back.

Board of Education: Incumbents Joseph DiSibio and Joan Gartner are each running unopposed. Terms are for three years.

Voting Information: Tuesday, May 18, 6 a.m. to 9 p.m. at the James A. Dever, Howell Road, Willow Road and Wheeler Avenue schools.
