Central High School District proposed 2010-11 budget

Posted

Proposed budget: $100,681,122 — an increase of $823,613 or 0.82 percent

Tax Levy: $77,343,622 — an increase of $2,244,113 or 2.99 percent

Tax Impact: Average homeowner in District 13 will pay about $42 less in high school taxes. District 24 residents would have an average increase of $80 and District 30 residents would pay $162 more next year. The discrepancy between districts is due to shifts in overall assessment.

About the budget: One full-time teacher in each major subject — English, math, social studies and science — would be cut. A part-time foreign language teacher, two part-time social workers, a part-time psychologist, a full-time orchestra teacher, four cleaners and four monitors would also be eliminated. The budget uses $5.4 million from the unreserved fund balance.

State Aid: The governor’s proposed budget would give the district $16.2 million, a reduction of about $2 million.

Contingency: The district would have to reduce the budget by $823,613. The Board of Education would decide what to cut. By law, there can be no non-essential equipment purchased and community use of facilities would be impacted.
