About the budget: The budget preserves all programs and staffing levels. There is funding for enhancements to the ESL program, a new K-6 science curriculum, interactive white boards and early intervention literacy support.

Contingency: The district would have to cut $1,053,000. An assistant principal position would be cut, as would three or four teachers. No new equipment would be purchased, affecting the six-year technology plan.

State Aid: District 30 will be budgeting the same $5.25 million it did for the current school year.

Board of Education: Jim Lavery is running unopposed for a five-year seat.

Proposition 2: Voters will be asked to use $1.6 million from the capital reserve fund for new windows at all three schools and the replacement of ceilings and lights in certain hallways at Shaw Avenue. The work would be done during the summer of 2011. This contains no tax increase.

Voting Information: Tuesday, May 18, 6 a.m. to 9 p.m. at the Clear Stream Avenue, Forest Road and Shaw Avenue schools.
