When Jones Beach State Park opened in 1929, then-State Park Commissioner Robert Moses had a vision of what a public beach should provide patrons — sumptuous bathhouses, a campanile water tower, miles of sandy beaches and boardwalk, public gardens, numerous recreational opportunities, restaurants and parking lots for thousands of cars. more

Jones Beach State Park will see $10 million in additional improvements this year, continuing to build on renovations and upgrades made at the park in 2014. The U.S. Maritime Administration and Coast Guard held a public hearing about Port Ambrose, a proposed liquefied natural gas terminal in the Atlantic Ocean 18.5 miles southeast of Jones Beach, last Wednesday night in a ballroom at the Hilton New York JFK Airport in Jamaica, Queens. Port Ambrose opponents, who have assembled into a “No LNG Coalition,” conducted a press conference immediately before the hearing, drawing a few dozen people into a small hotel meeting room feet away from the ballroom.

Holiday light show returning to Jones Beach

A company’s plans to build “Port Ambrose,” a liquefied natural gas terminal in the Atlantic Ocean 19 miles southeast of Jones Beach, have stalled for months in a federal review process, but that is likely to change next month.
