After some seven years of studies, community meetings, press conferences and tens of millions of dollars spent on planning and consultants, the Nassau Veterans Memorial Coliseum remains an aging concrete behemoth surrounded by 77 acres of cracking asphalt. It is a glaring eyesore in one of the nation’s wealthiest counties.

To the Editor: At the recent Hempstead Town Board meeting, I attended to express my opinion on the salary increases they gave themselves. The manner and timing of the increases was disingenuous at best, showing a lack of regard for the poor economy.

The third time against South Side was almost a charm for West Hempstead. The sixth-seeded Rams threw their best punch in last Friday’s Nassau Class A boys’ basketball quarterfinal playoff game at Hofstra, but it wasn’t enough to deliver a knockout.
