A water main burst on Seaman Avenue just west of Herbert Street Thursday morning.

Donna Thomas, 28, died on May 24 after being diagnosed with non-Hodgkin’s lymphoma. She was a single mother of Jaylin, 11, a sixth-grader at Baldwin Middle School.

In a few weeks, Baldwin High School seniors will accept their diplomas and move on to college or begin their working careers. They will take a variety of skills and lessons with them that they learned in Baldwin schools — and they will no doubt remember the educators who made it all possible. more

On May 5, the exterior of the three-story precinct headquarters was completed and work on its interior has begun. The project should be completed next March.

The landscape at the site of the future headquarters of the Nassau County Police Department’s 1st Precinct, at the corner of Merrick Road and Harrison Avenue, has changed drastically in recent months. The Huntington Learning Center, which sat adjacent to the existing precinct, was demolished, and a three-story brick building was constructed in its place. more

Adrian Allain, a member of the Baldwin Fire Department and a British Army veteran, committed suicide on March 31. He was 49. Allain was very popular in the community and established the British-American Social Society to celebrate the two countries’ cultures and raise money for charities. Since his death nearly two months ago, community groups and businesses have organized benefits for his family, including one on May 30 at South Nassau Christian Church.

‘A tremendous loss’

Adrian Allain did a lot of living during his time on earth. The father of four, a native of London, spent six years in the British Army, moved to New York after marrying Deidre Stammers in 1993, founded a nonprofit organization to celebrate British culture, joined the Baldwin Fire Department and played keyboards in a band. But on March 31, Allain took his own life. He was 49. more
