An eagle eye for over-height vehicles

The Eagle Avenue bridge, off exit 18 of the Southern State Parkway, isn’t just any old overpass. With a height of just 7 feet, 7 inches, it has one of the lowest clearances of any bridge on any Long Island parkway, and is struck from beneath by oversized trucks an average of three times a year, according to the New York State Department of Transportation. more

Scout spruces up Baldwin cabin

The small, red cabin, tucked neatly on a large plot of land on Grove Street in Baldwin, has been home to all things scouting for 77 years. Over that time, though, it hasn’t had many upgrades, including its vast backyard with towering trees spread throughout. more

Successful season nearing completion for Eagles

This fall, the fields at Lenox Elementary School have been packed with kids from pre-K to fifth grade who are learning the sport of soccer on the weekends. The Baldwin Eagles Soccer Club had its largest turnout in more than 20 years for its fall intramural season and Eagles’ officials say it’s been a great season so far. more

Scout’s honor

A lot has been happening at the site of the Baldwin Historical Museum this year, from the redesign of its interior display to the creation of a community garden in its backyard, but there is always more work to be done. That’s why local Boy Scouts and community volunteers were on hand on July 19 to spruce up the site’s landscaping. more
