Hundreds of Coleman Country day campers sat eagerly in the bleachers, their chants of “Ike Davis!” rising into the hot summer air on Tuesday. Minutes later, Mets first basemen Ike Davis strolled out of left field to loud applause, accompanied by camp owner and director Ross Coleman.

Mets first baseman Ike Davis will coach Coleman Country campers when he visits “The Ranch” in Merrick in July. The emerging superstar is one of the best players on the Mets and had one of the hottest starts in all of Major League Baseball this season before an injury forced him onto the disabled list. At 24, he was named the first baseman on Baseball America’s 2010 All-Rookie team.

Tricia Parides, a teacher at Plaza Elementary School and a resident of Baldwin, exchanged wedding vows with Mike Wilder last Friday at the first marriage ceremony at Citifield, home of the Mets.
"My fiancé, Mike, and I are huge Mets fans," Parides told the Herald before the wedding.
