Baldwin Middle School students in grades 6, 7 and 8 got a pleasant surprise last Friday when rap star Busta Rhymes — the father of BMS students T’khi and Trilian Wood-Smith — and “The Voice’s” Melanie Martinez, whose brother attends the school, popped by to provide some entertainment.

The student, all of 12 or 13 years old, slammed my already broken left hand against the cinder-block wall. Pain shot down my plastered skin. The boy then ran out of the suspension room, pursuing another student with whom he had gotten into a fistfight.

The Baldwin Middle School Guidance Department held its first Career Day for eighth grade students in May. Seven presenters gave an overview of five different career paths - healthcare, environment, technology, and financial management and service industry - as part of the Career Development Occupation Studies (CDOS) Curriculum.
