The 675,000-square-foot complex, complete with a 19,000-seat concert hall, is the home of the Brooklyn Nets and will be home to the New York Islanders beginning in 2015. The Madison Square Garden Company was one four respondents to County Executive Ed Mangano’s Request-for-Proposals last March to redevelop the Nassau Veterans Memorial Coliseum in Uniondale. The group, led by president and CEO Hank Ratner, is proposing to renovate the 41-year-old building and build an entertainment district called “Long Island Live!” that would lie adjacent to the arena.

After a months-long study, County Executive Ed Mangano has announced his intention to scale down the Nassau Veterans Memorial Coliseum. Last week, Mangano formally issued a request for proposals, seeking a private company to reinvent the Uniondale complex. The plan, according to Mangano, is to downsize the arena from its current 16,000-seat capacity to the vicinity of 10,000 seats.
