I thought, how’d I miss the memo? Where was my year-end list? I must have been too busy looking back on the decade that was.

There are big-picture issues that the town of Hempsteand and Nassau County will have to tackle together. Foremost among them is the Lighthouse project, a sweeping proposal to transform 150 acres surrounding the Nassau Veterans Memorial Coliseum in Uniondale from the barren asphalt of a parking lot to a residential and commercial zone.

As Republicans and conservatives have embraced the mantra of “just say no” to anything Obama, they have failed to address in any positive way the critical problems we face. Where are the thoughtful, challenging alternative Republican plans to the Democrats’ economic stimulus package, proposed health care bill and foreign policy initiatives, especially in Afghanistan?
