The County Legislature’s Public Safety Committee approved the Police Department’s revamped Police Precinct Efficiency Initiative along party lines, 4-3, at a public hearing on Feb. 13. There are eight police precincts in Nassau County. The four that will become Community Policing Centers are the first, fifth, sixth and eighth. The second, third, fourth and seventh precincts will remain as they are. The County hopes this will save some $20 million annually.

County Executive proposes changes to police precincts

Four Nassau County police precincts, including the First Precinct in Baldwin and the Fifth Precinct in Elmont will be transformed into Community Policing Centers in an effort to save Nassau County $20 million annually, County Executive Ed Mangano announced at a press conference Monday. more
