On Wednesday, all 56 Nassau County public high school football teams began preparation for the upcoming season, scheduled to open with a Conference I game between Freeport and Plainview on Friday, Sept. 7.

For the second straight year, Mepham traveled to Elmont to challenge the Spartans in the first round of the Nassau Conference II football playoffs. The Pirates pulled off the upset in 2010, but this time it was No. 3-seed Elmont that got the last laugh, winning 14-7.
