Any Nassau County High School football team seeded fifth, seventh or eighth in its respective conference began the season with back-to-back road games and will play at home for the first time in 2009 in Week 3.

The winds of change are blowing across the gridiron at Calhoun on several levels. On top of a major overhaul of the roster due to graduation, the eighth-seeded Colts are also moving up to to Nassau’s highest level of football, Conference I. Head coach Joe Bianca has even installed a new offensive system in an effort to combat the new opponents the Colts will face on a weekly basis.

The Nassau County High School football season kicks off today with five games, including defending Conference I champion Freeport hosting Oceanside at 4:30 p.m. The Red Devils went 10-2 in 2008 and captured the Rutgers Cup, awarded to the best team in the county.
