I recently read in –– where else? –– the Merrick and Bellmore Heralds that Senior Editor Scott Brinton took home first place for Best Column in the New York Press Association’s annual clips contest, as well as third place for column writing in the Local Media Association’s clips competition. Eight Hofstra University graduate journalism students in Adjunct Professor Scott Brinton’s Issues in Science Reporting class grabbed rubber gloves and oversized garbage bags and headed by boat on March 24 to the archipelago of tiny islands and mudflats south of Bay County Park in East Rockaway to join in and report on a massive cleanup of the wetlands.
