Islanders fans Bob Miernicki, of Amityville, and Patrick Dowd, of Bayshore, celebrated the team’s return to Nassau Coliseum at a news conference on Jan. 25, in which Gov. Andrew Cuomo announced that the Isles will play 60 games at the newly renovated venue over the next three seasons.

The New York Islanders may be playing in the near future at a new facility to be built on grounds of the Belmont Park racetrack, according to Governor Guomo.

Arena Partners, Islanders score Belmont arena contract

The New York Islanders have been awarded the right to develop Belmont Park, according to people close to the negotiations. A formal announcement will take place at a news conference on Wednesday, to be held at the Belmont racetrack. Gov. Mario Cuomo is slated to attend.
