Dozens of East Meadow residents recently took part in a back-to-school supply drive to benefit the Mary Brennan INN of Hempstead. The drive, which was mobilized by the Facebook group "Nice Things that Happen in East Meadow," supports the Interfaith Nutrition Network, a soup kitchen that helps the hungry and homeless on Long Island by providing food, shelter, long-term housing, and supportive services in a dignified and respectful manner.

When you look at data on drunken driving over the past 30-plus years, it’s clear that we’re making real progress. Drunken driving-related deaths have been cut in half since 1980, down to just under 10,000 in 2014. But it’s equally clear that bringing that number down to zero will require a lot of hard work, creative thinking and new ideas.
