On Friday, July 22 at 11 a.m., Lynbrook firefighters, along with officials, family and friends will gather at the Lynbrook Post Office, which will be officially renamed and dedicated in honor of Navy Corpsman Jeffrey L. Wiener, a Lynbrook High School graduate and former Lynbrook volunteer firefighter who was killed in action on May 7, 2005 in an ambush and bombing in Haditha, Iraq, during Operation Iraqi Freedom. more
Initial, unconfirmed reports were that cyanide was found on a woman at the Bellmore Post Office, which prompted authorities to call in the Nassau County Hazardous Materials unit and to shut down Merrick Road in front of the mail facility.

Updated: 2:30 p.m.Nassau County Police and the U.S. Marshals Service cordoned off the Bellmore Post Office and surrounding streets at around 11 a.m. today, shutting down Merrick Road for several blocks to the east and west.
