On Friday, April 1, at 3:13 p.m., the East Rockaway Fire Department was dispatched to a report of a house fire at 5 Cail Drive. The first unit on scene was Assistant Chief Ed Reicherter, who reported to all responding units that there was “smoke showing.” Reicherter entered the residence where he provided additional information that there was a working kitchen fire. After a duck hunter lost his watercraft, he became stranded on the marsh south of Bay Park in East Rockaway. With his dog wet from being in the freezing water and with the temperature dropping fast, the East Rockaway Fire Department, along with Nassau County Police Marine units were called to the location. more
