Everett Janes served in the U.S. Army during World War II, and was decorated for his efforts during the Battle of the Bulge. With his time in Lynbrook and East Rockaway, he had a total of 65 years in the fire service.

Everett Janes was known throughout East Rockaway and Lynbrook as “Digger” because of his passion for the bay and for digging clams. “You would always find him tinkering around with an engine whether it was a boat or a car,” said his daughter, Susie Torborg. “He enjoyed having a good time and was often the life of the party.” more
