H. Frank Carey High School was crowned the winner of Sewanhaka Central High School District’s annual District Sports Night on Feb. 29, held at Carey. Students in grades 7-12 from Carey, as well as Elmont Memorial, Sewanhaka, Floral Park Memorial and New Hyde Park Memorial high schools competed in various games, including Tug-of-War and relay races. more

The H. Frank Carey High School’s first-ever traveling boys’ lacrosse team — comprised of 20 9th, 10th and 11th-graders — competed throughout the state this summer, completing its season with a 4-7-2 record. The team was initiated by Tom Aiello and Anthony Tufano, head varsity coaches at Carey, and played 13 games this summer, including two local tournaments at SUNY Farmingdale and Hofstra University, and the Tri-State Tournament, which was held in New Jersey. more

The Sewanhaka Central High School budget passed this evening, with 4,628 votes in support of the budget, and 3,028 votes against it. This year's turnout — 7,656 voters — was slightly lower than last year's, when nearly 10,000 residents came to the polls to vote for the 2010-11 budget. more

For the second time in the past two months, parents came to the microphone at the Sewanhaka High School District’s Board of Education meeting to publicly disparage the district’s English as a Second Language program. The program is currently housed in only one school within the five-school district — the H. Frank Carey High School — and some parents within the district believe it has created an unsafe environment at Carey. more
