Consider residents when holding meetings
To the Editor:
I read the Sept. 23-29 article “Proposed Inwood project seeks 25-year PILOT,” about the proposed Inwood project. I am opposed to a project of this magnitude. It’s just too big. However, what bothered me more is that your article states that “only one resident attended the hearing.”

Though there was whispers of dissent from some in the Five Towns, only one resident attended the Monday Town of Hempstead Industrial Development Agency public hearing on whether a proposed five-story mixed use project in Inwood should receive the customary 10-year PILOT (payment in lieu of taxes) agreement or a 25-year deal.

A quiet summer Sunday evening was shattered as the floors in two of the four apartments in the two-story Building 10 of the Bayview Gardens apartment complex at 385 Bayview Ave. in Inwood separated between 5:30 and 6 p.m. Amazingly, no one was injured and everyone was evacuated.

Inwood resident Henry Owens died on July 25 from injuries he sustained after he was ejected from a Sanitary District 1 sanitation truck near the intersection of Burnside Avenue and Rockaway Turnpike after being hit by a semi tractor-trailer as Owens was backing into a location at 4:55 a.m., on July 23 in Cedarhurst.
