The Island Park village board adopted the 2015-16 budget at its meeting on April 16. The only sounds were the howling wind and the low moan of the horn on the Long Island Rail Road work train trying to clear the tracks. No jets, no cars, no busses, no people. A curfew was in effect and the streets of southwestern Long Island were deserted, save for the occasional plow rumbling though. It started snowing Monday and continued through Tuesday, but fortunately the worst of the storm moved out east. more
The Village of Island Park will have a building department, after a vote by the village board on Jan.15. Mayor Michael McGinty said that by formalizing the department, the village will be better able to serve its residents, investigate abandoned and derelict houses left from Sandy, and interface with other governments. McGinty explained that the village couldn’t just knock down or board up property that belongs to others; there are protocols that must be followed. Until now the Village only had an inspector, not a department. The Village also hired a public relations and media consultant. more
The Island Park Business and Residential Chamber presented an informational evening at the Island Park Library Jan. 8. The chamber officers discussed future plans, then introduced a veritable parade of officials. more
