Hundreds of people from Long Beach came out to support the Long Beach Waterfront Warriors at the organization’s first 2010 fundraiser at Lola’s restaurant on May 3. Proceeds from the event will be used to support wounded, ill and injured soldiers and their families to visit the city for a few days for rest and relaxation for the second consecutive year. This year, the city plans to host about 30 families from July 25 to 29. City Councilman John McLaughlin, who spearheaded the project last year, greeted guests at Lola’s, who each donated $50. Proceeds from Lola’s and the upcoming fundraiser at the Inn, on West Beech Street on July 18, will be used for transportation, entertainment and accommodations for the families.    The Long Beach Waterfront Warriors organization welcomes your support and invites all to join them in making this year’s visit even more memorable than last year.   Log onto lbwaterfrontwarriors.org or write to info@lbwaterfrontwarriors.org for further information on this rewarding experience. The Long Beach Chamber of Commerce donated to City Hall a 10-foot long, two-panel photographic view of "The City by the Sea” in all its autumn-light glory. The two panels that capture Long Beach from its easterly borders to the orange-gold setting sun to the west was photographed by Constantine Abatzidis of Enhance a Photo. Abatzidis took the photo on the roof of City Hall. "The idea was suggested by Alan B. Wolfer, a retired attorney and avid photographer who campaigned for art work to be installed in City Hall,” said City Manager Charles Theofan. The Chamber offered to pay for the printing and installation of the mural. Located on the fifth floor, visitors and employees can "step" into the mural as they step out of the elevator.
