New law bans minors from tanning at salons

New York State Sen. Charles Fuschillo Jr., a Republican from Merrick, announced on Tuesday that legislation he sponsored to help protect teens from the dangers of skin cancer has been signed into law by Gov. Andrew Cuomo. The new law strengthens the state’s existing indoor tanning law by prohibiting minors ages 16 and under from using indoor ultraviolet tanning booths. more

State Sen. Charles Fuschillo Jr., a Republican from Merrick, is pushing a bill that would ban the use of indoor tanning beds by anyone under age 18 in New York, saying they could cause premature skin cancer in young people. more

The Nassau County Legislature passed a measure to redraw the current legislative map in a vote on Tuesday. Ten Republicans voted for the plan, while seven Democrats voted against it. Legislator Denise Ford, a Republican from Long Beach, was the lone dissenting voice in her party.

GOP redistricting plan passes, 10-8

With a single vote on May 24, the Nassau County Legislature shifted 576,000 voters out of their current legislative districts and into new ones, while also moving certain districts, such as the 19th, across the county. more
