Merrick Chamber of Commerce honors four leaders

The Merrick Chamber of Commerce’s annual Installation Dinner is set for Jan. 28, at 6:30 p.m., at Chateau Briand in Carle Place. At this 81st dinner, Charles Fuschillo Jr., the former state senator from Merrick, will be honored as Man of the Year, and Donna Rosenblum, the Merrick Library’s current president, will be recognized as Woman of the Year. The Professional of the Year is Louise Pitlake, and the Merchant of the Year is Peter Holmstedt. The Merrick Herald Life is a co-sponsor of the awards. Jolly Old St. Nick swung by the Merricks last Sunday, paying a two-hour visit to the gazebo at Veterans Memorial Plaza, beside the Merrick train station. Joining in the fun were Kimberly Chacon and her daughter Natalia, who recently moved to the community.

Valerie Sanzone, a trainer and instructor at Synergy Fitness in Merrick, led a flash mob of dancers last Sunday on Merrick Avenue at the Merrick Fall Festival, which was sponsored by the Chamber of Commerce. The festival attracted thousands of fair-goers from Sept. 25 to 27.

At 12:30 p.m. last Sunday, Valerie Sanzone, a trainer and instructor at Synergy Fitness in Merrick, leapt out of the crowd that had gathered in front of the Town of Hempstead’s Showmobile, parked near Merrick and Loines avenues. Dressed in black tights and a white tank top with a pink ribbon and the words “Join the Fight” across the front, she danced rhythmically. more
