A man stole a wallet containing credit and debit cards and $400 at 7:48 a.m. on Dec. 29 at the Gulf gas station at Sunrise Highway and Merrick Avenue in Merrick, according to the Nassau County Police Department. Officials released surveillance camera images of the suspect last weekend.

A notification that Parents for Megan’s Law, a Long Island not-for-profit organization, distributed on Feb. 2 falsely stated that a sex offender was living near Camp Avenue School in North Merrick, according to David Feller, superintendent of the North Merrick School District. The individual named in the notification is actually in prison, Feller reported.

Workers for Hogan Plumbing and Heating, Inc. struck a natural gas pipe last Friday afternoon behind Merrick Shopping Center, according to Don Hogan, the company’s owner. The Merrick Fire Department evacuated more than a dozen houses near the shopping center, and the Nassau County Police Department shut down a block of Merrick Road, but officials quickly determined that there was no danger.
