It was a beautiful day for a race. The air was cool, the wind nearly calm, the sun shining and the course dry. And race they did: Nearly 1,000 runners took to village roads last Saturday morning to participate in annual races sponsored by Rockville Centre’s Recreation Center and the Chamber of Commerce.

On Oct. 24, Manuel F. Martinez, co-founder and owner of Utopia Home Care, was honored by the Long Island Hispanic Chamber of Commerce during the organization’s 21st annual gala at the Long Island Marriott in Uniondale. Martinez previously served as the chamber’s president.

The 32nd annual 10K, 6.2-mile road race and the newer 3.1-mile 5K race are scheduled for this Saturday, Nov. 7 at 10 a.m. on Park Avenue between Merrick Road and Sunrise Highway opposite the Fantasy Theatre.
