Old Mill fourth-grader wins bully-prevention poster contest
Alexa Fronte, a fourth-grader at Old Mill Road Elementary School in North Merrick, is among the winners in the 11th annual Child Abuse Prevention Services Bully Prevention Poster and Poetry Contest. More than 1,500 students from 57 Long Island schools submitted entries to the competition. The winning 12 posters and three poems will be featured in the 2010-11 CAPS School Year Calendar, to be distributed this fall. more

A few hours after Landon Donovan scored a last-minute goal at the World Cup in South Africa to advance the United States to Round of 16, the Shore Road School fifth-grade Student Council hosted its own charity soccer shootout. Created by fifth-grader Robert Romeo, students donated money to compete in shootouts held during their physical-education classes. more
