Students and staff and Francis X. Hegarty Elementary School in Island Park helped raise money for relief efforts in Haiti and Chile by wearing “Hats for Haiti and Caps for Chile.” On March 26, students and staff were encouraged to wear a hat or cap to class and contribute at least $1 to relief efforts. The initiative raised about $750 for the non-profit group AmeriCares. School principal Jacob Russum and students Jaden Barwicki, Mateo Mendez, Christopher Arroyo, Gabriella Kouletsis, Barbara Speight and Taylor Keenan proudly show off their collection jar.
