Although a Mass for parishioners from Catholic churches in Seaford, Wantagh, Merrick, Bellmore and Massapequa was slated to start at noon, Bishop John Barres continued to walk down the center aisle of St. William the Abbot Church long past the top of the hour on Feb. 23. According to the United States Conference of Catholic Bishops, over 16,000 people in the U.S. alone have claimed that they were abused by priests as children between 1950 and 2012.
