The Marty Lyons Foundation hosted its 21st Annual Nassau County Bowling For Wishes Fundraiser at AMF Lanes in East Meadow, a charity started by former New York Jet defensive lineman Marty Lyons in 1982 that that fulfills the wishes of children between 3 and 17 who have been diagnosed with a terminal or life threatening illness.

The village is preparing for the 37th annual 5K/10K and Family Fun Run on Nov. 8.
The day includes three different races: a 10K, a 5K and a 1-mile Family Fun Run. Both the 10K and 5K make loops through several village streets. Like last year, the route will be slightly different than in previous years due to construction on Maple Avenue.

A new East Meadow restaurant, Anzai, opened its doors on July 22 on Front Street, and after less than one month of business, I ate lunch in what seemed like an already well-established eatery. As Bo Ding, the restaurant’s manager, explained the process of becoming an up-and-running restaurant, I admired the fast service, fresh sushi rolls and calm atmosphere.

Nearly 10 years ago, Susanne Giuliani wrote her first manuscript, a children’s story about a mouse named Musky living in New York City. Unsure what to do next, she gave it to her daughter, Kristin, a fourth-grade teacher in the Oceanside School District, who read the manuscript to her students. A hit among the kids, the children divided the pages amongst themselves, and drew illustrations as a homework assignment.

“We care for each other,” said Leonora Coleman, 87, a lifelong East Meadow resident. “The love is always there.”
On Thursday, Leonora and Robert Coleman planned to celebrate their 65th Valentine’s Day as a married couple. The pair lived on Richmond Road in East Meadow for more than 60 years, until 2011, when they moved down the street to Sunrise Senior Living of East Meadow, on Glenn Curtiss Boulevard.
