Famed Marine Sgt. William Bodette was welcomed at the airport and escorted by the Patriot Guard to the VFW in Lynbrook on Monday night, where members and residents stood to greet him.
“I personally served with him from 1991 to 1994,” said Post Commander Pat Cardone. “He’s visiting New York, and we’d like to give him a warm welcome.”

Mayor Brian Curran and the Village Board of Trustees urge residents of Lynbrook to participate in an upcoming promotional event on Sept. 25 called “$25 on the 25th” to support Main Street business across New York State during this stubborn economic downturn.
“The “$25 on the 25th” campaign is being jointly sponsored by The New York State Conference of Mayors, the New York Press Association, and the New York State Economic Development Council” said Trustee Hilary Becker.

In a high school auditorium, you usually find groups of bustling adolescents sitting in the rows, but on Monday, parents gathered in the Lynbrook High School auditorium to voice their frustrations about what they describe as illegal activity among local youth. Lynbrook and East Rockaway officials, along with members of the Nassau County Police Department’s 4th Precinct, were in the hot seat as many residents complained about disruptive youth who, they said, hang out, drink and cause mischief near Waverly Avenue.

Visibly upset residents brought drug paraphernalia to Lynbrook Village Hall. They brought photos of what they believe is illegal activity on their streets, and talked of the smell of marijuana permeating their otherwise peaceful existence.

On June 28, three local students were honored by the ELLM Association of Girl Scouts when they received their Gold Award. Amanda Eckert, Carrie Feltkamp and Sarah Kalny, all Lynbrook residents, completed the rigorous requirements to earn the highest honor in Girl Scouts.

Lynbrook Mayor Brian Curran has been named the Nassau County Republican Party’s choice to fill Assemblyman Bob Barra’s seat in the November election. Curran, 41, a longtime Lynbrook resident, began a four-year term as mayor in 2007.

Putting rumors to rest, Lynbrook Trustee Hilary Becker announced at Monday's board meeting that Mayor Brian Curran will be the Republican nominee for Assemblyman Bob Barra's seat in the 21st Assembly District. An official announcement is set for Wednesday night at the Nassau County Republican Convention.

The East Rockaway Village Board unanimously adopted its 2010-11 village budget of $8.9 million on April 19. The spending plan contains a 1.6 percent increase over the current budget and a 5.43 percent tax levy increase. The average homeowner will pay an extra $110 in taxes.

The National Civic League announced that the Village of Lynbrook has been named one of its finalists for the 2010 All-America City awards, the nation’s oldest and most prestigious civic recognition award. Lynbrook was the only village that was chosen in the state of New York.
