Actor Paul Giamatti, an Academy Award nominee for his role in “Sideways,” and an Emmy winner for his portrayal of President John Adams in the TV miniseries of the same name, spent two days in Rockville Centre last week. He was filming “Win Win,” director Tom McCarthy’s comedic exploration of allegiances and bonds among unlikely characters, due out in 2011.

Embattled New York Gov. David Paterson announced last week that he was ending his bid for re-election, just days after kicking off his campaign. While many of his colleagues in government are urging him to step down, Paterson said he has no plans to leave office.
Sen. Dean Skelos (R-Rockville Centre) said he thought Paterson's decision to not run for re-election was the right one. "I told [Paterson] that Senate Republicans were prepared to move forward on a bipartisan basis to address the budget and other pressing matter," Skelos said, "...and that hopefully the Senate and Assembly Democrats, unlike last year, would do so as well."

Congresswoman Carolyn McCarthy recently announced a $500,000 grant for the Village of Rockville Centre’s annual road projects.
The money, part of the departments of Transportation, Treasury and Housing and Urban Development appropriations bill, will be used by the village for its 2010 Roadway Project. McCarthy, who represents New York’s Fourth Congressional District, helped secure the funds.
